How does photography pricing work?

How does photography pricing work?..

I don't Shoot out of a Studio. I come to my customers I'm Willing to travel up to 1 hour for shots. I Don't have set package because my customers prefer to pick and choose and not be limited to packages, So I have been Charging a Flat rate for the photo Shoot and then only charging cust photo's @ cost., Also In most Shoots I release copy rights to Customers Of (unEdited Photos) Is this a good Idea? Any suggestions and if your a photographer how do you charge?

I Want to be VERY reasonable with pricing and still make a profit.

Should Different shots have the same flat rate?..

and could I get some package infomation with pricing?

There are a million and one different ways to charge out for work and I am sure others on here will give their versions
BUT

You should never be releasing copyright and you should never be releasing unedited shots to the customers.

Unedited shots can be shown as proofs but nothing else.

If you don't want to do a "package" then you should charge a reasonable sitting fee - or a per hour fee - for taking the shots and then pricing the prints (NOT at cost) accordingly to ensure you are making a reasonable profit.

A sitting fee is to cover your time not to make your profit from. Your profit comes from print sales (and slideshows or whatever else you sell).

To get package information with pricing then look at other photographers in your area or alternatively look at the thousands of websites for photographers who are doing similar work to yourself.

Pricing will depend on your customer base, location, style, expertise etc etc.
